Jay-Z’s Music Streaming Service, Tidal Launches In Uganda

International star, Jay Z’s music streaming platform, Tidal, is now widening its reach in Africa through a partnership with MTN Uganda. The partnership, launched on August 22, gives MTN’s 10.5 million Ugandan subscribers access to Tidal as part of their mobile plans, with streaming data included in the deal.

They also get a one month free trial of Tidal and subsequently get options to subscribe for one-, three-, seven- and 30-day subscriptions. Tidal will also host local music on its platform and host a conference in September, as well as a concert featuring Kranium, DJ Spinall, Beenie Gunter and local DJs in Kampala.

Uganda is the second African country to get Tidal, after South Africa, though the MTN deal is the first telco partnership on the continent. Plans are also in the works to expand to additional countries where MTN operates in Africa.
