Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Tuesday morning returned to the senate to resume as the Chief Whip of the House.
The former Abia state governor was given a rousing welcome by his colleagues and staff of the National Assembly who had not seen him for over six months. Recall that Orji was in December 2019, sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for allegedly defrauding the Abia state government of N7.1 billion while he was in office.
His sentencing was nullified by the Supreme court on May 8 on grounds that the presiding judge lacked the judicial power to sentence Kalu at the time. He was released from the Kuje correctional center on June 3.
