According to a report by Sahara Reporters on January 4, 2024, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of attention given to the education sector, spanning from primary to tertiary levels.
ASUU emphasized that the government’s track record over the past eight and a half years has been marked by unfulfilled promises, with little tangible progress observed in the education sector.
During an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of ASUU, voiced the union’s concerns and urged the federal and other levels of government, including the administration led by President Bola Tinubu, to prioritize and enact substantial changes in the education sector.
According to Prof Osodeke, the government has been adept at making promises but has failed to deliver tangible results, particularly in the field of education.
He pointed out that the lack of meaningful actions has contributed to the stagnation and deterioration of the education system.
As Nigeria enters the New Year, ASUU’s warning serves as a reminder of the pressing issues affecting the education sector and the urgency for comprehensive reforms.
The union advocates for governance that prioritizes the well-being of the masses and actively addresses the deficiencies in the education system.
