Gov Kefas approves N1bn for pensioners’ gratuities in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the sum of N1 billion for payment of gratuities in the state.

He vowed that his government would not abandon workers who had served diligently.

Apart from the initial N1 billion, the governor also approved N200 million to be set aside each month to offset the backlog.

He noted that it is unrighteous to deny workers who have slaved over the years their entitlements.

The Permanent Secretary, Pensions, Mrs Rose Garba Ajiya, said the gesture will effectively end years of anguish and frustration of aged pensioners.

She said her team is well prepared to begin payments as all records are available and accurately kept.

The pensioners told DAILY POST that the last time such gesture was extended to them was in 2011.

They urged the governor to personally monitor the payment.
