The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has openly declared his admiration for former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, explaining that he has a personal liking for the politician despite public assumptions about their relationship.
The cleric made this known in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, November 7, 2026, while addressing suggestions that he does not have a favourable opinion of the former presidential candidate.
According to Ayodele, some people have misunderstood his comments about Nigerian politicians and political developments, leading them to believe that he is not supportive of Obi. However, he dismissed the perception, insisting that his feelings towards the politician are different from what some members of the public assume.
The clergyman further disclosed that he regularly remembers Obi in his prayers, stressing that his admiration for the former governor goes beyond political discussions and public disagreements.
Explaining the reasons behind his affection, Ayodele identified Obi’s personality, communication style and manner of speaking as some of the qualities he appreciates. He particularly noted that the politician’s way of speaking reminds him of his father, which has contributed to his fondness for him.
Speaking in the video, Ayodele said:
“Some people think that I don’t like Obi. I pray for Obi, because I love Obi. I love his style. Even the way he talks, he talks like my father. That is the reason I love Obi.”
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, enjoyed considerable support from young Nigerians and other voters who embraced his campaign messages on accountability, leadership reforms and economic development.
Primate Ayodele, meanwhile, remains a prominent religious figure who frequently comments on Nigeria’s political affairs, including the activities of political parties and the ambitions of prominent politicians.
His latest remarks have further highlighted his personal admiration for Obi, despite the different political issues surrounding the former presidential candidate.
