The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has advised Nigerians to purchase goods from places where they can trace the seller through a receipt.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, gave this advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
She said that purchasing goods from places that issue a purchase certificate will allow buyers to track the place of purchase if they have a problem.
She added: “If a purchase certificate is not provided, do not buy, as you may fall into the trap of substandard or damaged goods.
“But if you have proof of purchase in hand, you can easily return the goods and get your money back.”
Similarly, the NAFDAC boss advised Nigerians to ensure that all goods they intend to purchase have a NAFDAC registration number before making a purchase.
Adeyeye stressed that Nigerians should check the date of manufacture, expiry date, and the condition of the products before paying, saying that NAFDAC is working hard to achieve a healthy society.
She said: “Make sure that the products you are going to buy have a NAFDAC registration number, check carefully, if the products are not good, please do not buy them.
“Also, pay attention to the expiration date; don’t buy just because the price of the product has dropped.”
She also advised Nigerians to cook their food thoroughly, especially grains, to kill any bacteria that may be present in them.
