The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced the ban on street vending and other unauthorized activities in the state capital, Maiduguri.
In a statement issued on Friday, the General Manager of the agency, Mr. Limán Mustapha, said the decision was made in accordance with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Act, 2002.
The ban applies to street vendors, travelers and rental car operators, and generator repairers in areas near the Communications Office and the Monday Market in Maiduguri.
The agency also prohibits all activities on footpaths, culverts, and valleys, as well as the sale of fuel on the side of the road.
Likewise, it is prohibited to dump sand or construction materials on the streets, or to dig ditches along the side of the streets.
Mustapha urged those affected by the order to vacate their places immediately. He warned that the agency would take legal action, including arresting and charging violators before the courts.
He also called on the public and business people to comply with this new order to avoid facing legal action.
