Governor Umahi Denies Leaving PDP To Join Apc

Ebonyi State governor, David Nweze Umahi has trashed media reports claiming he has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The purported defection of Governor Umahi was instigated by a member of the House of Representatives the southeast state, Chinedu Ogah, who belongs to the APC.

Ogah in a statement on Saturday, October 17, congratulated Governor Umahi for purportedly dumping his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

The lawmaker reportedly said: “Yes, Governor Umahi’s defection to our great party, APC is a step in the right direction. We cannot afford to remain in opposition. We must join the ruling party to continue to reap the dividends of democracy.

‘’I am calling on other Governors in the south east to toe the line of Governor Umahi and join APC. We have to be at the center, we have to join mainstream politics for overall development of our zone and the country in general.”

The Sun, however, reports that Governor Umahi, through a statement by his media aide, Francis Nweze, has denied the purported defection.

He described the report as false and a figment of the originator’s imagination. Nweze said Governor Umahi will make an official announcement if, for any reason, he wishes to dump the PDP, adding that such information will not come from those he described as “rumour mongers’’.
