The ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu, held a meeting at the headquarters of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission in Abuja with an undercover reporter from the Daily Nigerian Newspaper.
The purpose of this meeting was to investigate allegations of corrupt practices in relation to rapid degree issuance at a university in Cotonou.
On December 30th, 2023, the Daily Nigerian Newspaper published details of their undercover reporter obtaining a degree from Cotonou University within six weeks and subsequently enrolling in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
In response to these reports, on Tuesday January 2nd, ICPC released a statement on its X handle revealing that they had launched an investigation into these allegations.
The statement reads: “ICPC Chairman Meets Undercover Reporter on Cotonou University’s Alleged Six-Week Degree Scheme and Launches Investigation.”
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of ICPC held a crucial meeting today with a journalist from a media outlet at the ICPC headquarters.
This meeting was held to confirm facts and go beyond assumptions about suspected fraudulent activities linked to the prompt issuance of degrees at Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies (ESGT) in Cotonou, where degrees are purportedly granted within six weeks without adhering to conventional academic protocols such as application, registration, coursework and examinations.
