In a newly released video, a school principal kidnapped alongside dozens of students and educators during a terrorist raid on three schools in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area has refuted rumors regarding her captors’ demands.
The principal, Mrs. Alamu, confirmed they have been held for 24 days and urged the public and government officials to stop spreading false claims that might endanger their rescue. She noted in the terrorist-issued footage that the militants had actually shown the hostages the false online reports concerning their supposed terms.
“Hello, everyone. I have come to make some clarifications. Today makes it the 24th day we have been in this place, and it seems that some people are making our case complicated already,” she said.
She clarified that rumors suggesting the kidnappers want a N1 billion ransom, weapons, the release of imprisoned fighters, or the establishment of Sharia law are entirely false. Mrs. Alamu warned that this misinformation is interfering with dialogue and actively jeopardizing their chances of being freed.
“They are not asking for Sharia law; they are not asking for weapons; they are not asking for money. All they are asking for is the release of some people and negotiation. Don’t play politics with our lives,” she pleaded.
This urgent plea arises as anxieties mount regarding the safety of the roughly 45 individuals taken during the coordinated attacks on the Oriire schools. The emergence of this new footage has sparked fresh uncertainties regarding the progress of government negotiations, while anxious families continue to pray for the safe rescue of their loved ones.
