The Kwara State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has urged the state administration to liberate the 176 captives from the Kaiama area.
The political group extended congratulations to the leadership and citizens of Oyo State for the triumphant liberation of the 49 kidnapped pupils and educators, who recovered their liberty following a grueling 51-day ordeal in the captors’ jungle.
The organization characterized the rescue operation as the fruit of persistent public involvement, unwavering journalistic pressure, and the actionable governance provided by the Oyo State executive.
It emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde illustrated the essence of accountable leadership by treating communal disapproval and anxieties not as an insult, but as an incentive to step up actions aimed at securing the freedom of the captives.
In a press release endorsed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the Kwara PDP contrasted this progress with the safety crisis plaguing Kwara State, accusing Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of failing to elevate the liberation of the 176 expectant mothers, nursing women, and youth seized during the February 3, 2026 militant raid on Woro village to a top priority.
The onslaught additionally claimed the lives of approximately 200 citizens.
According to the faction, Governor Abdulrazaq’s apparent apathy and absence of resolute intervention reach beyond the Woro catastrophe to the predicament of hundreds of other targets of abductions and criminal raids across Kwara State, leaving vulnerable neighborhoods feeling deserted and exposed.
“Our movement is deeply concerned that while Oyo residents rejoice over the return of their people, Kwara State continues to grieve under a leadership that simply remains detached. We are compelled to contrast the Oyo triumph with the reality in Kwara, where roughly 176 blameless individuals seized in Woro, Kaiama LGA, have been abandoned in the captors’ hideout since February 3, 2026.
“Today marks precisely 158 days that these individuals have been left behind in the jungle, entirely disregarded by the Abdulrazaq administration.
“The triumphant liberation in Oyo did not occur by chance. It materialized because Governor Seyi Makinde exhibited authentic leadership, transformed the emergency into his foremost concern, and collaborated closely with national authorities and defense forces.
” In stark contrast, the administration in Kwara has neglected to confront the issue of instability with the equivalent vigor, integrity, and resolve required to guide our populace safely back home.
“What proves even more alarming is the hostile manner in which Governor Abdulrazaq handles detractors and everyday citizens who raise their voices. Rather than combating insurgents, this leadership treats anyone pointing out its shortcomings as an adversary, utilizing government bodies to track down and suppress differing perspectives.
“Kwarans will not erase from memory how elderly matriarchs from Ifelodun, who were peacefully marching and imploring the administration to salvage their abducted relatives, were violently attacked and degraded right outside the Government House, Ilorin while law enforcement and safety agents merely observed.
“Concurrently, in Oyo State, when demonstrators guided by influencer VeryDarkMan took to the pavements, Governor Makinde refrained from deploying thugs to assault them. Instead, he joined their ranks personally, clarified the state’s endeavors, and offered his pledge. This demonstrates that an earnest policymaker regards detractors as contributors to advancement, rather than lawbreakers to be cast into a prison cell,” portions of the press release stated.
The Kwara PDP praised the populace of Oyo State and the Southwest zone, the broadcasting corporations, the Rattel Movement spearheaded by VeryDarkMan, and every independent citizen who utilized their platform to keep the Federal and Oyo State authorities accountable until the youths were emancipated.
The faction contended that instead of treating anxious citizens as rivals, the Oyo state governor acknowledged their grievances, personally interacted with demonstrators, outlined the measures taken by the state, and comforted them that every vital action was being pursued to secure the hostages’ liberty.
“We dare Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to view this event as an urgent wake-up call and immediately liberate the Woro youths and expectant mothers.
“We also appeal to all Kwara inhabitants, particularly reporters, civil society alliances, scholars, and community networks, to stand up and demand explanations from the Abdulrazaq administration regarding the 179 Woro citizens and others still confined within insurgent strongholds,” the communique concluded.
