No fewer than 82 public primary schools in Oyo State have received sports facilities and equipment from the state government to boost sporting activities at the elementary level.
The beneficiary schools cut across the 33 local government areas of the state.
They got handball goalposts and nets, skipping rope, balls, table tennis bats and nets, and badminton rackets, among others.
The coordinator of the project, Jacob Dairo, during the presentation at the headquarters of the State Universal Basic Education Board in Ibadan, said;
“The rationale behind this is that these pupils will be able to participate actively in sports so that when they move to higher levels.
The facilities in the stadium will not be new to them since they have started making use of them in their primary schools.
At the end of the day, the school will organise competitions in which the winner in each local government will compete in a zonal competition, and then a state final will be organised for the competition, and the winners will represent the state in national and international competition.”
