The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is adamant about proceeding with its scheduled protests on Tuesday and Wednesday, citing concerns over escalating hunger and insecurity in the country, DAILY POST reports.
Despite warnings from government entities such as the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, affirmed the organization’s commitment to staging peaceful demonstrations.
Ajaero accused the government of attempting to disrupt the protests by allegedly mobilizing a group called the Nigeria Civil Society Forum (NCSF) to attack NLC members. He warned of a potential nationwide shutdown if any of its members were assaulted during the rallies.
The NLC’s determination underscores the growing frustration among Nigerians over the prevailing socio-economic challenges, including widespread poverty and insecurity. The planned protests serve as a platform for citizens to voice their grievances and demand action from the government.
