The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) has challenged Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to disclose the religious organizations linked to insurgencies in the country.
This call comes in response to Olukoyede’s revelation about the EFCC uncovering a religious group involved in money laundering for terrorists. In a statement, SCSN emphasized the urgency of legal action against those financing activities jeopardizing national security and demanded the EFCC to reveal the identity of the religious body allegedly sponsoring terrorism, with N7 billion traced to its account out of N13 billion.
Expressing deep concern over the potential misuse of funds compromising Nigeria’s peace and security, SCSN urged immediate public clarification and decisive action against the concerning nexus between religious groups and insurgency.
They also addressed insecurity in Plateau State, criticizing the exclusion of Muslim representation in the security committee. The SCSN called for a reevaluation of the committee’s composition to ensure fair representation, emphasizing the importance of justice and equitable participation to foster a united front against the state’s challenges and avoid exacerbating the crisis.
