Governor Umahi Says "IPOB Members Are Trying To Incite Another Civil War In Nigeria"

The Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi has warned contractors already working on Nigerian roads against requesting for additional funds outside the agreed contact sum, saying such request will not be granted.

Umahi also announced that his ministry has forwarded a request of about N217 billion to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for consideration for the execution of 260 road projects across the country.

The Minister who stated this during the constitution of committee for the supervision of reconstruction of Benin-Warri dual carriageway and dualisation of East-West road, section 111:Port Harcourt (Eleme Junction)-Onne Port Junction Road in Rivers State, in Abuja yesterday said the ministry was working with the N6trillion sent aside for funding of ongoing and other projects.

He said those contractors using asphalt concrete and have achieved 80 percent completion can go ahead but should not asked for additional funds to complete the projects, insisting that the ministry will not go beyond the N6trillion set aside for the projects.

The minister charged the contractors using asphalt concrete to ensure that their contracts are stable, sustainable and can stand the test of time.

Umahi said he cannot be going to the National Assembly on weekly basis with 2, 604 projects that are ongoing, asking them for increment of contract sum.

He further reinstated his resolve for concrete technology on Nigerian roads, maintaining that it last for 50years without maintenance.

He hinted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu promised Nigerians of long lasting roads across the country, saying that the promise must be fulfilled.

The Minister disclosed that his office has contacted the president on about 260 road projects that need immediate attention across the country, stating that the National Assembly was aware of the development.

He put the cost of the project at N217 billion assuring that by the time the issue is presented before the Federal Executive Council for discussion, approval will be given.
