Elon Musk Suggests New U.S. Political Party

On Thursday 5th June 2025, Elon Musk posted on X, asking if America needs a new political party for the “80% in the middle.” This means people who don’t fully agree with Democrats or Republicans. His poll got over 4.2 million votes, with 81% (3,468,043) saying “Yes” and 19% (813,098) saying “No.”

This idea comes after Musk argued with President Trump about a big spending bill that could add $2.3 trillion to the country’s debt.

People had different reactions. Andrew Yang, who’s working on the Forward Party, and Nicole Shanahan liked the idea. Shanahan said she’s tired of the current system acting like a “piggy bank” that keeps breaking. Mark Cuban seemed to agree too. But Scott Presler worried a new party might split votes and help Democrats win. Steven Nekhaila suggested using the Libertarian Party instead.

This idea ties into Musk’s bigger fight with Trump. Musk criticized the bill, so Trump threatened to cancel Musk’s government contracts. Musk then said his company SpaceX would stop using its Dragon spacecraft. He also claimed Trump is in secret Jeffrey Epstein files. As of 7:07 AM WAT today, June 6, people are still talking on X. A 2023 poll showed 63% of Americans want a third party, but it’s hard to make one in the U.S. system.
