President Bola Tinubu on Thursday telephoned Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to inform him that he had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate a court order freezing the state’s government account.
Afrobeats star Davido, the governor’s nephew, was present during the call.
He later posted on X: “I was there live! I witnessed history!!!”
The post drew a response from former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, an APC chieftain who scored 16 votes in the party’s Osun governorship primary. Ahmad said he had bookmarked Davido’s message as a future reference if the August 15 election results did not favour the singer’s preferred candidate.
The exchange quickly escalated. Davido mocked Ahmad’s primary performance.
Ahmad replied by questioning how many Grammy Awards Davido had won from his five nominations.
Davido responded: “You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents.“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency. You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident. You spent 8yrs with the ex president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty stricken community.“We all have different trophies Bashir, I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs.”
The posts generated thousands of reactions as the Osun governorship race intensifies.
