Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said that any politician aspiring for elected office and promising to spend one term in office should be subjected to psychiatric evaluation.
Recall that the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, a member of the political coalition against President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in response to report that he had agreed to be Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the platform of the African Democratic Congress in 2027 while denying the speculation talked of his readiness to spend one term in office.
Taking to his X handle, Obi declared that he would rather spend a term as President than being a Vice-President.
“I have not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku.
“If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply with the agreement and be ready to leave office on the 28th of May, 2031—not the 29th, but the 28th,” he wrote.
In veiled reference to the ex-Anambra governor over his statement, the incumbent governor on Saturday during a rally held in Anambra South in support of his second-term ambition said Obi deserved to undergo psychiatric test.
“How can anybody with a functioning brain say that? Do you think you’re speaking to fools? You come before people and declare, ‘I will only serve one term.’
“Any politician who says that should be taken to a psychiatric hospital. Something must be wrong with the person,” Soludo stated.
