Following the peaceful agreement signed by Gov. Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Sir Edwin Clark, PANDEF President, expressed his amusement at the sight of what he referred to as a group of “illegal legislatures” withdrawing the motion of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Clark characterised the legislators involved in the withdrawal as “illegal,” questioning their legitimacy and authority to make such decisions.
The PANDEF President conveyed a sense of scepticism about the intentions and outcomes of the agreement, suggesting that the pressure on the governor to fulfil his part of the bargain might have severe consequences. He criticised the president’s involvement, asserting that the call was initially made not for mediation but for the president to “call his minister Wike to order.”
According to him, “So this morning, when I saw a group of illegal legislatures withdrawing the motion of impeachment they had allegedly passed on the governor of Rivers State, I laughed.
” Who are these illegal legislatures parading themselves? All they’re doing is pressuring the governor to perform his own part of the bargain, which is very detrimental to him, which is a death warrant he signed, and if he did, he’s committing suicide. So what we’re saying is that the president had good intentions; we called upon him to call Wike to order.”
People have misunderstood the whole issue that we called on Mr. President to mediate. We didn’t call on Mr. President to mediate; we called on him to call his minister Wike to order; that’s all we did.
So for him to go the extra mile to go and impose a one-sided oppressive and unconstitutional agreement on the governor is unacceptable to all of us.”
