AFCON 2023: Nigeria’s possible round of 16 opponents after finishing second in group A

Nigeria successfully wrapped up the group stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a notable 1-0 triumph over Guinea-Bissau. The decisive moment came with Opa Sangante’s own goal favoring the Super Eagles.

Despite the win, Jose Peseiro’s squad clinched the runner-up spot as Equatorial Guinea dominated hosts Ivory Coast with a resounding 4-0 victory. Consequently, Nigeria is set to face the second-placed team from Group C in the Round of 16.

As it stands, Senegal leads Group C with six points, followed by Guinea with four points. Cameroon holds one point, while Gambia has faced defeat in all their fixtures so far.

The upcoming Group C matches will feature Senegal against Guinea and Cameroon against Gambia. The Super Eagles’ Round of 16 clash is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, at 9 pm WAT.
