AFCON: Stanley Nwabali makes Super Eagles history in Angola win

Stanley Nwabali has equalled a long standing record for the Nigeria National football team.

Nwabali kept a shutout AS Nigeria defeated Angola 1-0 on Friday evening to advance to the AFCON2023 semifinals where they would face Cape Verde or South Africa.

The cleansheet against Angola was the 4th cleansheet in a row at the ongoing tourney in Ivory Coast.

Nwabali has conceded a solitary goal in 5 matches so far, which was in the opening game against Equatorial Guinea.

Nwabali has become the first Eagles goalkeeper to keep 4 consecutive clean sheets in a major tourney in 44 years. The last to do so was Best Ogedegbe in 1980, he surpasses Alloy Agu’s 3 games in a row in 1990.

He can own the record outrightly if he can manage another one against Cape Verde or South Africa in the semifinal.
