Manchester United are perfectly set up for another heavy defeat at Anfield

Manchester United have lost their last two games at Anfield by a combined score of 11-0, one of the games being the 7-0 defeat when they capitulated against the Reds last season.

Ahead of meeting again this weekend, Manchester United couldn’t have found themselves in a worse situation to face their rivals.

Another heavy defeat is very much likely on the cards for the following reasons.

Liverpool’s brilliant form

Liverpool are flying high this season while Manchester United are not. The Reds are currently top of the Premier League table and wouldn’t want to relinquish that position so soon.

United have become such an easy fixture for them recently especially at home having not lost at Anfield to the Red Devils since January 2016 and having not conceded at Anfield since December 2018 against same opposition.

Manchester United’s absentees list

The number of senior players who will be missing for Manchester United is mind blowing.

Leading the list is Bruno Fernandes who got booked in last weekend’s defeat to Bournemouth, his 5th yellow card of the season which equalled a one match ban.

On Tuesday night in the Champions League, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw dropped out of the Bayern Munich fixture with injuries that will keep them both out for some time.

Prior to Tuesday, both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were confirmed ill and their situation is still unclear until Erik ten Hag gives his prematch press conference on Friday afternoon.

Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen are all out with injuries too.

Manchester United’s shaky form

Once again, Manchester United is the most inconsistent team in the Premier League and going into a game at Anfield with two consecutive home defeats isn’t good for confidence.

Every indication points towards another heavy defeat for United against Jurgen Klopp’s league leaders.
