What Declan Rice Told Mount After Arriving For England Duty

After helping Chelsea lift the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League, attacking-midfielder Mason Mount now has the small matter of representing England at Euro 2020 this summer.

The Blues academy graduate, who claimed the assist for Kai Havertz’s winner against Manchester City in Porto last weekend, will be looking to cement himself as a main feature within Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up as the Three Lions go in search of glory at this summer’s rearranged European Championship.

Having not seen his club season come to an end until last Saturday, Mount, alongside his fellow countrymen who play for Chelsea and City, did not link-up with the England squad until Friday, meaning he was granted a few days rest before the hard work began.

However, there was no time for Mount to catch up with his Three Lions teammates in a social capacity as he was thrown straight into a training session ahead of England’s final warm-up match against Romania at the Riverside, as Southgate looks to put the final touches to his preparations ahead of next Sunday’s opening Group D match against Croatia at Wembley.

But in amongst the gruelling hard work that the Chelsea star, who is expected to be a key figure for England this summer, had to endure, he did find time to catch up with very best friend and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

The pair are good friends off the pitch and have been close for most of their lives.

Unsurprisingly, Rice took the occasion to congratulate Mount on winning the Champions League.

Captured by England’s YouTube channel, which took a close look behind the scenes at the latest training session, the pair were spotted taking a well-earned rest. Mount was sat down on his phone with Rice laying next to him and the West Ham man cracked a joke, saying: “He is just showing me his Champions League stuff, isn’t he?”

With the pair laughing and joking, Rice then stood up and continued: “Mate, he is buzzing, the kid. Buzzing. Deserved. Deserved.”

Mount then responded with a tongue-in-cheek comment, saying: “Don’t listen to him, he’s lying,” in response to Rice saying he was showing him photos of his Champions League triumph.
