Liverpool player, Gini Wijnaldum is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield with his current deal expiring in the summer.
The Holland star has been heavily rumored to be set for move to Barcelona and could speak to the Spanish giants in January about a switch six months later.
Wijnaldum was integral to Jurgen Klopp’s side last year as Liverpool won the Premier League title.
The 30-year-old has carried that form into this season as the Reds sit top of the table once again.
Former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks Wijnaldum will stay at Anfield due to uncertainty around Lionel Messi.
The Argentine is out of contract in the summer and has yet to commit to staying at Barca.
He told Football Insider: “I think he stays.
“The fact that he has said he will give it a couple of weeks… I think he will sign a new contract.
“Lionel Messi will be able to talk to other clubs in January, will he be there next season? That could sway Wijnaldum.
“Liverpool will not want uncertainty and unrest midway through the season so they will have a conversation with him because either way it needs to be put to bed. Klopp will not want it hanging over the team.
“We have seen how important he is to him with the injuries they have had. He has been one of their outstanding players this season.
“I think Liverpool will have offered him a contract that is better than what he can get anywhere else.
“He has been linked with Barcelona but they are in financial trouble so I do not think they would be able to match Liverpool’s offer.”
Wijnaldum has made 22 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
