Tems Becomes First Female Nigerian To Win NAACP Image Award

Nigerian singer, Tems has become the first female Nigerian to clinch an NAACP Image Award.

The music star won the Outstanding International Song and Best Music Video categories for the hit song ‘Essence’, a collaboration with pop star Wizkid.

Tiwa Savage’s ‘Somebody’s Son,, featuring Brandy, gained her nomination, while Kidi and Omah Lay received nominations for their song, “Touch it”, and “Understand” respectively. Fireboy also got nominated for his hit song ‘Peru’.

The 53rd NAACP Image Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and performances of people of colour across more than 80 competitive categories from film, television; plus streaming, music, literature, and podcasts.
