A mild drama unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday when detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, engaged in a physical confrontation with a Department of State Services (DSS) officer moments before the day’s proceedings commenced.
Kanu, who was brought into the court premises under heavy security, became visibly agitated, shouting that the Nigerian Court does not obey its laws. The situation escalated when a DSS officer gently approached him but in the heat of Anger, he violently shoved the officer aside telling him ‘not to try that rubbish’.
This prompted other security personnel to intervene to prevent the situation from further degenerating.
The confrontation caused momentary tension as lawyers, journalists and court officials watched the scene unfold before normalcy was restored. Kanu’s legal representatives have long accused security operatives of restricting access to him during court appearances, a claim the DSS has repeatedly denied.
