Policeman accidentally shoots Governor’s Sister during Gunmen Attack

Atsi Kefas, a sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was reportedly shot during an attack by gunmen on Thursday, November 2, 2024, along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. The attack targeted a convoy transporting the governor’s mother, Jumai, and Atsi Kefas.

According to reports by Zagazola Makama, a publication specializing in counter-insurgency operations in the Lake Chad region, the shooting occurred when a police escort assigned to protect the family fired at the attackers in an attempt to repel them.

Tragically, Atsi was accidentally struck during the exchange.

Following the ambush, troops intervened swiftly to rescue the victims. Both Jumai and Atsi Kefas were evacuated from the scene using an air ambulance. Atsi was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment, though details of her current medical condition have not been disclosed.

Security forces investigating the incident reportedly recovered the vehicle used by the attackers, along with an empty magazine and passenger luggage, as evidence from the scene.
